What Is the Base Plate 4.5®?
The MAKO Base Plate 4.5® is a stay-in-place base designed to expand the FinStand® and CoilStand® system for use on vapor barriers, concrete overlays, and slabs on sand or rock.
FinStand or CoilStand snaps and securely locks into the Base Plate, creating a stable, non-puncturing support platform that can be secured with adhesives, screws, or nails depending on the substrate.
Designed For
- Vapor barrier slabs (without puncturing membranes)
- Concrete overlays
- Slabs on sand or rock sub-grade
- Elevated slabs (wood or metal deck attachments as needed)
- Bridge decks, waterways, and power plant projects
- Super flat floors requiring FF/FL compliance
Ideal for use on projects requiring compliance with ACI 302.1R-04, ACI 117 and ASTM E1155. Iowa DOT approved.

How It Works
- Place Base Plate 4.5 on vapor barrier, overlay surface, sand, or rock base.
- Snap FinStand or CoilStand into the Base Plate until it locks securely.
- Secure assembly as needed using adhesive, construction glue, screws, or nails (depending on substrate and job requirements).
- Insert 1/2″ (13 mm) rod between the bottom of the FinStand and Base Plate for easy, stable setup (optional setup method).
- Set elevation and continue with screed setup using FinCap® or JAWS® chairs.
Base Plate 4.5 is designed as a stay-in-place form and can remain in the slab after placement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Base Plate 4.5 used for?
It expands the FinStand and CoilStand system for use on vapor barriers, overlays, and slabs on sand or rock by providing a stable base that snaps and locks to the stand.
Will it puncture a vapor barrier?
No. Base Plate 4.5 is designed to sit on vapor barriers or membranes without puncturing them.
How is the Base Plate secured in place?
The Base Plate is textured to grip adhesives, and the assembly can be secured using screws, nails, construction glue, or other adhesives depending on the substrate.
How far apart should supports be placed?
A typical guideline is every 3–4 feet depending on screed length, sub-grade conditions, and tolerance requirements.
Can it be left in the slab?
Yes. Base Plate 4.5 is designed as a stay-in-place form made from medical grade polypropylene and will not corrode.
