What Is the Adjustable JAWS® Small Concrete Screed Support System (without Base Plate)?
The Adjustable JAWS® Small Concrete Screed Support System is a bundled MAKO system designed for fast, accurate grade setting using 2x4 wood screed rails and other screed rails up to 1-1/2″ (40 mm) wide.
This bundle combines JAWS® Small Screed Chairs with FinStand® Adjustable Supports to create a stay-in-place, height-adjustable screed support system for elevated decks, sloped slabs, bridge work, and super flat floor projects. Base Plate 4.5 is NOT included. This bundle is intended for direct attachment to wood or metal decks using the FinStand fastening holes. The Threaded Rod (all-thread), hex nut and flat washer are sold separately.
Designed For
- Elevated decks (wood or metal)
- Sloped slabs and grade transitions
- Bridge decks, waterways, and power plant concrete projects
- Super flat floors requiring FF/FL compliance
- Contractors who want adjustable grade control and repeatable setup
Why Contractors Choose It
- Everything needed for adjustable 2x4 screed rail setup (without Base Plate)
- Fast setup on wood or metal decks
- Adjustable grade control for deck variation and slope changes
- Non-conductive and non-corrosive for harsh environments
- Engineered for consistent results on super flat floors
How It Works
- Set your grade. Run a string line or laser at finished slab elevation. When using the MAKO Driver with the JAWS Small Screed Chair and a 2x4 wood rail (actual height 3-1/2”) lower the string line 1.6 inches below finished slab elevation. This adjustment compensates for the extra height of the 2×4 so the top of the screed aligns with finished slab elevation. Be sure to confirm the actual height of your rail compared and calculate string line or laser heights.
- Establish your screed line. Snap a chalk line on wood deck or follow flute on metal deck. Space supports every 3–4 feet.
- Cut your threaded rod. Cut based on slab depth. (Use steel all-thread for slabs over 6".)
- Secure the FinStand. Fasten to deck - use screws for metal deck or nails on wood deck. Be sure the FinStand sits flat and solid.
- Install threaded rod. Thread into FinStand (minimum 1/2" embedment).
- Install the JAWS Small. Place on rod (minimum 1" embedment).
- Adjust to height. Use the MAKO Driver and adjust rod until marker hits string line. Optional: use nut/washer for fine tuning.
- Repeat spacing. Install screed supports every 3–4 feet along the screed run.
- Set your screed rail. Place 2x4 lumber or 1.5" screed rail on the JAWS Small. The top of the rail is automatically at finished grade. (A 1-1/2” ID screed pipe works as well but the stringline needs to be adjusted.)
- Place and screed. Strike off concrete with hand or mechanical screed, slide screed rail along screed chairs, fill the void with mud, and bull float over.
- Leave in place. JAWS Small assembly stays embedded in the concrete—no removal, no disruption to the slab.
