What Is the FinCap® Screed Chair?
The patented, non-metallic MAKO FinCap® is a stay-in-place concrete screed chair designed to support a nominal 1-1/2" (40 mm) galvanized screed pipe (1.5" ID / 1.9" OD), schedule 40 or higher.
Its patented internal “fins” hug the mounting structure so the chair will not bounce off rebar or rod during concrete placement.

- Vapor barrier slabs
- Bridge decks and infrastructure projects
- Super flat floors requiring FF/FL compliance
Ideal for use on projects requiring compliance with ACI 302.1R-04, ACI 117 and ASTM E1155. Iowa DOT approved.

How to Use the FinCap Screed Chairs + Driver
Slab-on-Grade Installation Guide
1. Set Finished Slab Elevation. Set a string line or laser level set to the final, finished elevation of concrete.
2. Select a Mounting Structure. Choose a mounting structure that will be driven into the subgrade. The length depends on soil conditions, so always test support assemblies before pouring concrete. The FinCap screed chair accepts 3/8" to 5/8" diameter mounting structures however, a 1/2" diameter mounting structures are recommended including:
• Rebar
• All-thread rod
• GFRP
• PVC
• Conduit
• Similar materials
The “FINS” inside the FinCap screed chair grip the mounting structure, preventing the chair from bouncing off during screeding.
3. Assemble the FinCap and Driver. Insert the mounting structure into the FinCap screed chair first. Then place the MAKO Driver over the FinCap. This assembly allows supports to be installed quickly and accurately while maintaining precise elevation control.
4. Position the Support. Place the Driver and FinCap assembly at the desired location along the string line. Supports are typically spaced every 3–4 feet, depending on project requirements.
5. Drive to Finished Elevation. Strike the top of the Driver with a rubber mallet and drive the assembly into the ground until the Driver marker aligns with the string line. When a 1-1/2" ID/1-7/8" OD galvanized screed pipe — Schedule 40 or higher — is placed on the FinCap, it will sit exactly at finished elevation of concrete.
6. Install Screed Supports Along the String Line. Repeat the process every 3–4 feet until all supports are installed. Because the Driver references the string line, each support is automatically set to finished elevation.
7. Install the Screed Rail. Place the 1-1/2" ID screed pipe onto the FinCap screed chairs. The screed rail is now set consistently to the finished elevation and ready for strike-off.
8. Place and Screed Concrete. As concrete is placed:
• Strike off the slab using a mechanical or handheld screed
• Slide the screed pipe down the FinCap supports as work progresses
• Fill the void with concrete and bull float
FinCaps remain embedded in the pour, eliminating removal steps. Once the screed pipe is removed, approximately 1" of concrete covers the FinCap arms.
