What Is the MAKO® Starter Kit?
The MAKO® Starter Kit is the fastest way to start using the MAKO Screed Support System.
It includes 50 FinCap® screed chairs and 1 MAKO® Driver so one person can quickly and accurately set screed supports using a string line or laser set to finished slab elevation. Enough for 1,500 sf slab.
Designed For
- Concrete contractors, general contractors, and construction engineers
- Slab-on-grade construction
- Concrete overlays
- Vapor barrier slabs
- Bridge decks, waterways, and power plant concrete projects
- Super flat floors requiring FF/FL compliance
Why Contractors Choose It
- Fastest way to get started with the MAKO screed support system
- One-person setup—quickly set multiple locations in seconds
- FinCap internal fins prevent bounce-off during placement
- Improves accuracy and consistency across the pour line
- Non-conductive and non-corrosive for harsh environments
How It Works
- Set your grade. Run a string line or laser at finished slab elevation.
- Choose your mounting structure. Use 1/2" rebar, all-thread, or similar (3/8"–5/8" also works). The internal fins in the chair grip the mounting structure and hold it in place.
- Load the assembly. Insert mounting structure into the FinCap, then place the MAKO Driver over it.
- Drive to height. Drive with a mallet until the Driver marker aligns with the string line. Now your screed supports are set at the proper height to accept the screed.
- Repeat spacing. Install screed supports every 3–4 feet along the screed run.
- Set your screed rail. Place 1.5" ID/1.9” OD screed pipe on the FinCaps. The top of the rail is automatically at finished grade. (A 2” or 1-1/4” screed pipe works as well but the stringline needs to be adjusted.)
- Place and screed. Strike off concrete with hand or mechanical screed, slide screed rail along screed chairs, fill the void with mud, and bull float over.
- Leave in place. FinCaps stay embedded in the concrete—no removal, no disruption to the slab.

Frequently Asked Questions
What pipe size does the FinCap® support?
Designed for nominal 1-1/2″ (40 mm) galvanized pipe (1.5″ ID / 1.9″ OD), Schedule 40 or higher. 1.25″ or 2″ pipe may be used with setup adjustments.
What mounting structures can be used?
FinCap® fits mounting structures from 3/8″ to 5/8″ (10–16 mm) including #3, #4, and #5 rebar, rod, stakes, dowels, PVC, or conduit. 1/2" is ideal.
How far apart should supports be placed?
A typical guideline is every 3–4 feet depending on screed length, sub-grade conditions, and tolerance requirements.
Does the MAKO® Driver work with all JAWS® chairs?
The MAKO® Driver is designed to work with FinCap® and JAWS® Small and Large chairs. It is not designed to work with JAWS® RailFin.
Can the supports be left in the slab?
Yes. MAKO supports are stay-in-place forms made from medical grade polypropylene and will not corrode even in extreme environments.
